The building emission rate for property acheived 40.21 kgCO₂/m². Its Energy Performance Asset Rating achieved B, which is well above the grade D rating for a typical building of its type.

NGK Spare plugs ACI, Hemel Hempstead

Syntegra Consulting has successfully undertaken the Air Conditioning Inspection of the NGK headquarters in Hemel Hempstead. Syntegra undertook the ACI inspection of the NGK building which is an air conditioned mixed use office and warehouse building.

The undertaking of an ACI (Air Conditioning Inspection) is a legal requirement according to article 9 of the Energy Performance Building Directive in England and Wales (EPBD). Air Conditioning Inspections are mandatory for all buildings with installed systems with rated cooling output greater than 12kW. The air conditioning inspection consisted of a site inspection and the production of the Air Conditioning Inspection report, which presents the site inspection’s findings and the recommendations for improving the system’s energy efficiency in order to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

The NGK building inspected lies under the packaged cooling systems assessment since it is air conditioned by a large number of single split systems.

Syntegra consulting has managed to identify areas of improving the energy efficiency further of the building’s air conditioning system. Recommendations were made in upgrading AC controls and control methodology. In addition, Syntegra investigated in improving the AC system’s efficiency and the building’s overall energy performance further, by recommending the use of LED lighting. LED lighting is the most energy efficient lighting technology compared to conventional technologies. Furthermore, LED lighting generates minimum heat, which helps reducing a building’s cooling load from lighting. Therefore, LEDs not only reduce the lighting electricity cost, but also the AC (air conditioning) cost of electricity due to reduced heat gains (cooling load). In addition, Syntegra managed to present solutions involving energy/heat recovery systems.

Moreover, Syntegra is following a holistic approach during the ACI site surveys. This means, that during the inspection other areas that will improve the building’s energy performance are examined. Such an area is the implementation of Low Zero Carbon technologies (LZC) aka Renewable Energy technologies. More specifically the possibility of implementing PV solar panels was examined. The utilization of PV (photovoltaic) panels can generate free energy from the sun and also provide an income to the building owner through the Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) scheme.

Syntegra Consulting has successfully undertaken a full energy audit of the head offices of Local Space housing association in East London. The energy audit involved a site survey where the existing HVAC systems, building fabric, small power and IT were surveyed. The aim of the site survey was to document the building’s energy performance and identify the areas where further energy savings could be achieved. Once, the site survey was completed Syntegra produced the energy audit report, which included the site survey findings and the various recommendations to improve the building’s energy performance.

The recommendations included improvements in existing HVAC and air conditioning systems control strategy, improvement of the glazing U-values, incorporation of Low Zero Carbon technologies(LZC) such as air source heat pump technology and PV(photovoltaic, solar panels) technology and retrofitting the existing lighting with LED lighting. In order to quantify the energy savings based on Syntegra’s recommendations, a building energy performance model was produced. The building energy performance model showed a total saving of 25.3% in energy consumption and 27.4% in C0₂ emissions with Syntegra’s energy saving recommendations. The 25.3% energy savings achieved equate to £2,500 annual savings of the building’s energy utility bills.

Also, Syntegra managed to identify and recommend the energy efficiency related legislation that the building had to comply with. In this case an Air Conditioning Inspection (ACI) was required in order for the building to comply with article 9 of the Energy Performance Building Directive in England and Wales (EPBD), since the air conditioning systems installed were above 12kW capacity.

Another important aspect of the energy audit was to review the existing utility contracts and negotiate and procure a new utilities deal providing substantial savings on electrical costs.

Syntegra Consulting has successfully undertaken the Air Conditioning Inspection of Getty Images building in Camden town, London. Syntegra undertook the ACI inspection of the old Getty Images building which is an air conditioned office building in order to lease it to a new tenant. The ACI report together with the EPC were required as part of the legal documentation for the lease of the building.

Syntegra Consulting has successfully undertaken the Air Conditioning Inspection of BP Castrol Technology centre in Pangbourne. The BP Castrol Technology Centre consists of sixteen buildings. The No16 buildings of the BP Technology Centre mainly comprise office, laboratory and storage areas. These are mainly single, two and three storey buildings.

The BP Castrol buildings lie under the packaged cooling systems assessment since they are air conditioned by a number of VRV systems and single DX split systems installed. Each of the VRV systems consisted of a VRV outdoor unit and indoor fan coil units. The VRV systems inspected provide heating and cooling. Some of the buildings are installed with VRV systems that incorporate heat recovery as well.
