Cork serves as a natural insulation system for the oak tree, by governing its temperature and moisture levels it protects the tree from temperature fluctuation making it a natural alternative to current insulation materials.

Cork is a sustainable insulation material and no chemicals are used in the manufacturing process which requires a low amount of energy consumption and is 100% ozone friendly, cork contains the lowest energy of all insulation materials.  When the cork oak tree reaches maturity at 25 years a healthy tree will produce up to 75mm of bark which will be re-grown to be harvested every 9 years helping to increase the tree’s lifespan for up to 150 years.

In the Green Guide to Specification for maximum benefit, BREEAM and code for sustainable Homes assessments, cork has been allocated an A+ rating.  It can conduct thermal activity of 0.038W/m2k and its airtight properties ensure small fluctuations in temperature allowing for the building to be warm on cold days and cool on warm days.  

Cork is rot proof, although lightweight it is just as effective as conventional insulation materials and is guaranteed to last for the lifetime of the building.

Installation of cork can be a versatile procedure, it can be bonded with adhesive or mechanically fixed and is a simple  material to cut into a required shape.  When the cork is installed, a wide range of treatments can be applied to the surface.
