The Heating and Ventilation Contractors’ Association (HVCA) and the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) are warning and highlighting that air conditioning inspection trainees may not be able to be accredited after undergoing certain less credible training providers.
The latter accreditation bodies are established professional institutions. Here at Syntegra Consulting we are aware that several other organisations are offering inspector based training based on a proposed ABBE diploma in air conditioning.
The latter diploma has not been accredited by the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) as a suitable qualification for those seeking accreditation as air conditioning inspectors. -This in turn signifies that the diploma will not prove competence and therefore will not be able to undertake air conditioning inspection reports.
‘We feel that it is seriously concerning that people with no experience of such systems who may not have any engineering or building services consultancy experience may be persuaded to take the ABBE qualification in the expectation of future work that they will not be able to undertake.’
This is a step in the right direction as the credibility of energy assessors saturating the market at domestic and filtering through to the commercial market is being tarnished by the fact that no previous experience criteria was formalised to become an energy assessor.
